A woman has shared her wedding horror story after her ‘jealous’ sister ruined her big day by spilling a long-kept secret.
The bride named Abby said at the wedding reception her sister, Cherie, told her new husband that she had slept with his then-married cousin, who is also his best friend, only weeks before the pair started dating.
In the anonymous piece, Abby, from New South Wales, told 9Honey she is still trying to patch up her relationship with her sister after she ‘sabotaged’ her special day.
A bride has told of how her sister ‘sabotaged’ her wedding day by telling her new husband a long-kept secret after her toast at the reception
Abby, 37, said two weeks before she met her now-husband, Jamie, she had an alcohol-fuelled one night stand with his cousin, Nick, who vowed to keep his mouth shut as he was married at the time.
‘And then shortly afterwards, when I started dating Jamie, Nick told me he would never let him know that he and I had had a one night stand. So I thought my secret was safe,’ she wrote.
Abby said the ‘one stupid thing’ she did was confide in her sister about the one-night fling who promised to keep her mouth shut.
Abby’s sister, Cherie, told her husband, Jamie, she has slept with his then-married best friend Nick two weeks before they met and kept it a secret ever since
‘She was always quite jealous of me and though we were quite close, I often found it was like walking on eggshells around her — she was never really happy when I had any kind of success,’ she said.
Jamie and Abby kept their wedding low key as they had both been married before and wanted ‘minimal fuss’.
She thought nothing of it when, in the lead up to the wedding, Cherie asked to say a few words at the reception as she was the maid of honour.
Abby said their wedding, held in the NSW Southern Highlands, was ‘perfect’ until it was time for Cherie to take the stage.
Her toast went off without a hitch however Abby saw Cherie lean in and whisper something to her husband.

‘I could see Jamie go practically white and I had no idea what Cherie could have said to him. He looked at me and gave a look of horror,’ she said.
‘I leaned over to kiss him and he smiled so I thought nothing more of it.’
Abby ‘couldn’t work out why’ Jamie was so quiet and hardly speaking on their way to the hotel after the reception.
‘He said, “Is it true that you slept with Nick just before we met?” I was absolutely gobsmacked. So that’s what Cherie must have told him! But why?’ she said.
‘I just burst into tears and confessed.’
The couple talked it through ‘for what seemed like hours’ and resolved to out the past behind them and focus on their marriage but Abbey is ‘finding it difficult’ to forgive her sister

‘As for my sister, I dealt with her by sending her a long email saying how disgusted I was with her for ruining my special day and for making Jamie feel like rubbish on a day we’d both been looking forward to,’ Abby wrote.
Cherie has apologised to Abby and blamed her indiscretion on a bit too much alcohol but she said she is finding it ‘difficult to forgive her’.
If she felt the need to tell my husband about my past fling, why the hell did she choose the most important day of my life?’ Abby said.
‘I will never understand her, but I hope I can just keep moving forward with forgiveness.’
