Sujith Kumar, who is an army officer, has always dreamed of building a house of his own at his hometown in Vallikode at Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. Moreover, he wished to live close to his ancestral home.
The 10 cents plot with an uneven layout was the biggest challenge while drawing the plan. Had the structure been built to suit the layout, the entrance area would look unattractive. However, intelligent designing and meticulous planning have helped overcome this problem. The architect deserves credit for designing such a fabulous abode that smartly ‘hide’ the irregularity of the plot. Interestingly, the car porch, sit out and the living area have been built at a 45 degree angle. However, one would understand this only if you look closer.
The elevation features a flat box style that looks chic and modern. The rose highlighter paint looks elegant against the white colour. Meanwhile, the natural stone cladding on the wall beside the sit out instantly draws attention.
Designed in 2475 sqft, this amazing abode has a car porch, sit out, living areas, dining space, courtyard, four bedrooms, kitchen with an adjacent work area and a balcony too. The family resides in North India, owing to the owner’s profession. So, they wanted a simple house with minimal interiors to make maintenance hassle free.
A sliding glass door in the dining area opens to the patio. Meanwhile, the jali wall made with porotherm bricks is the highlight here. The indoor plants add a hint of pleasant greenery in the patio space. This area, in fact, is the breathing space in the house.
The courtyard is just beside the living and the dining areas. Synthetic turf and pebbles have been paved on the floor here. Meanwhile, golden sunshine enters the house through the pergola skylight in the courtyard.
The strairway is simple with steel hand railings. The pergola skylights on the upper storey too brings in lots of natural sunshine.
Two bedrooms each have been arranged on both the floors. The bath attached bedrooms have in–built wardrobes too.
The kitchen cabinets are made in plywood and laminate finish. Meanwhile, the countertop has been paved with granite.
The housewarming ritual of this unique house was celebrated last month. The guests realized that the structure is a bit sloped only when the family explained it to them. Sujith is happy and proud that the family had moved into their brand new house.
