How to Look Stylish Everyday: Fashion Tips for You and Your Family

We’ve talked in the past about how to style your home with great interior design tips. Now we’re here to help you make fashion choices that will make your family stand out and turn heads!

What you wear is important! It can shape first impressions and even influence the way you think and act

By making a few key choices about what you put in your closet, you can learn how to look stylish every day.

Read on to learn everything you know before cultivating the perfect wardrobe for you and your family!

For the Adults

First, let’s talk about you and your partner. Chances are, you need a combination of casual and professional clothing. With our tips, you can select pieces that are versatile enough to wear to your Monday meeting and restyle for game day at a friend’s house.

Get Rid of Worn-Out Clothing

The first thing you need to do is take a close look at the clothing you already have. How much of it do you still wear? If you have pieces you haven’t touched in years that are in good condition, donate them to a second-hand clothing store.

Now, it’s time to put your sentimentality blinders on. If you’ve got shirts from college with holes in the seams or pairs of pants that are covered in stains, it’s time to say goodbye. Wearing worn-out clothing may look chic on the runway but in real life, it looks sloppy.

The good news is that you can still get some use out of those old pieces that are too shabby to donate! Cut them up and use them as reusable cleaning rags for your home and car.

Find the Fit That Flatters

How often do you buy clothing that you never end up wearing? That’s because you’re drawn to the pattern or style but don’t like the way that it looks on you.

Not every new trend will work for every figure. It’s time to think about the pieces you love and consider their shape. Once you know what cut and fit look best, you can start buying higher-end, longer-lasting clothing in the same style.

Learn How to Mix and Match

The best way to cultivate a wardrobe that will have you looking stylish every day is to master the art of mixing and matching. One way to do this is to consider colors and patterns carefully.

If you’re always drawn to bold patterns, consider committing to block prints and single colors for at least two-thirds of your wardrobe. For example, you can still buy patterned shirts as long as your pants, slacks, and skirts will balance them out.

Selecting clothing in the same color scheme will also do the trick. Look for casual or semi-casual pieces that can be classed up with a nice blazer or sweater. The key is to simplify so that you always have a go-to look on the ready.

Ditch Fast Fashion

Remember when we mentioned higher-end, longer-lasting clothing? That doesn’t include anything that could be deemed fast fashion.

Fast fashion refers to brands and stores that churn out hundreds of different pieces a season to meet the latest trend. They rely on consumers wanting to always look fresh and up to date and sacrificing quality in the process. In fact, most fast fashion brands do not pay much for their labor or their materials, which means that you’re purchasing clothing that is not equitable, sustainable, or quality.

There’s no need to meet every trend that comes and goes in order to look fashionable. If your clothes are simple but elegant and you know how to combine them to create gorgeous outfits, you’ll always look stylish.

For the Kids

Choosing clothing for your kids isn’t always easy. They may have a different style than you and their taste is still developing as they figure out who they are. Let’s take a look at the ways that you can navigate these challenges and still dress your kids to the nines.

Let Them Have a Say

Don’t try to tell your kids what to wear! There’s going to be a big difference between fashion for you and fashion for your kid and that’s okay.

Remember that clothing is a form of self-expression. Your kids are trying to uncover and express their own identities, and choosing the clothes that they wear on a regular basis can stifle that process. Plus, you may find that they’re a lot more resistant to the clothing you buy for them if you don’t let them have a say.

Go For Quality but Remember They’re Still Growing

The best way that you can ensure your child looks stylish no matter their taste is to purchase quality pieces. Durable materials and construction are much more likely to survive the wear and tear kids put their clothing through.

However, you don’t need to invest as much in your kids’ clothing as you do your own. Why? Your kids are still growing (and their taste is evolving) which means that whether their sweater costs $20 or $100, it will only serve them for so long.
