Labor Day weekend might be summer’s last hurrah, but it also happens to be one of the best times of the year to score great deals on sneakers. From Amazon to Zappos, retailers are offering serious deals on supportive, cool kicks.
We asked New York City-based board-certified podiatrist Dr. Polina Zaydenberg to peruse the sales and let us know what she’s shopping. And she agrees it’s an ideal time to buy.
“Investing in sneakers now makes sense — you can wear them year-round, no matter the weather — and they provide much more support than flimsy flats. They’re a great choice if you have flat feet, too.”
Check out these podiatrist-approved styles — and add them to your cart before they sell out.
These running shoes have a grippy outsole, and are made to feel just like your favorite socks. A chunky foam heel provides plenty of bounce, too. Dr. Zaydenberg loves how breathable the textile upper on the shoe looks, and they’re supportive to boot.
These lightweight sneakers have an air bubble, which is a great shock absorber, especially for those who battle heel pain. They come in a ton of colors too, and for the price, you really can’t get much better — they’ve earned over 3,100 perfect five-star reviews.
Dr. Zaydenberg is a big fan: “I wore these on a hike,” she shares. “They’re super comfortable and have great shock absorption, especially on irregular terrain. Great shoes!”
Dr. Zaydenberg isn’t the only one enamored of these plush sneakers — they’ve garnered over 1,600 perfect five-star reviews! Hoka’s Bondi 6 kicks provide plenty of cushioning, yet they’re remarkably lightweight — great if you’re on your feet all day.
“They’re good if you’re an underpronator (when you put more pressure on the ankle and toes as you walk),” she shares. “The sole looks like it’ll be great at shock absorption, too.”
The Bondi 6 gets rave reviews from shoppers with plantar fasciitis and neuromas— one reviewer described wearing them as “walking on a bed of firm marshmallows,” which sounds absolutely delightful.
These New Balance kicks sport a heritage design, modernized by the cool split logo emblazoned on the side of the shoe. They’re a fashion-forward update on a classic, and they’ve caught the eye of Dr. Zaydenberg.
“I love that they’re leather — you’ll have them for years,” she says. “They look accommodative and stylish, too.”
These sneakers are sure to put a spring to your step, thanks to a rocker sole that encourages a smooth transition from heel-strike to toe-off. They have a compression midsole and a single-mesh layer upper that promotes breathability.
“They’re really accommodative,” Dr. Zaydenberg shares.
Zappos shoppers love them, too: “This is it kids, this is the one!” one raved. “I found my ‘sole’ mate. Not a great runner, call myself a trotter but with these babies I might become one. Straight outta the box perfection.”
