The duo, who call themselves The Jensen Sisters, are partnering with Simply Boutique in East Grand Forks and Warren, Minn., to market the clothes, which include boots, jeans and jackets. The Jensen Sisters collection will be available year round, and feature new arrivals each month.
The Jensen Sisters musical career began five years ago after singing together at their high school’s talent show. The sisters started performing at other events at the request of audience members who had heard them sing at the high school show, and, eventually, at larger venues across the Midwest.
In February 2020, The Jensen Sisters won the Midwest CMA New Artist of the Year award. Kendra, 21, and Kansas, 18, also have released two CDs of original country songs and host a two-hour radio shows five days a week on Pioneer 90.1-FM in Thief River Falls.
The sisters venture into the fashion industry and partnership with Simply Boutique is a good fit, Kendra said.
“Kansas and I have always had an interest in the fashion world, and have spent the past few months hand picking pieces that represent who we are as individuals, as well as who we are as musicians,” she said.
She and Kansas named their clothing collection ”Sostre,” which is the Norwegian word for “sister,” Kendra said. The Jensen Sisters’ ancestors, like many others who live in Goodridge, came to Minnesota from Norway, and they want to promote their heritage through their clothing collection, Kendra said.
“It’s a part of us. No matter where we go, it’s always going to be from home, which is a way to ground ourselves in our roots. The collection is a way of showcasing how proud we are to be from home,” she said.
The sisters officially will announce the new collection at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at Simply Boutique in East Grand Forks. They also will host an acoustic performance and meet and greet before the event concludes at 4 p.m.
The Jensen Sisters will be on the main stage at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Happy Harry’s Rockin’ Up North Fest, opening for Diamond Rio, in East Grand Forks.
