Find trendy children’s clothing for winter at these Long Island shops

Some go for monograms, while others look for sustainable brands. Across Long Island, children’s boutiques specialize in those areas and more. “I’m very into fashion, and love being able to share that when I give gifts,” says Garden City mom Angela DiLemme, 47, who has a 16-year-old daughter and shops locally for her young nieces and nephews. “I always try to find clothing stores with special items.” Offerings with one-of-a-kind flair make the children’s boutiques on our

Staten Island mom creates lingerie line for transgender women after daughter comes out

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — In 2014, South Shore mom Karyn Bello and her family began navigating uncharted territory when her daughter, Lily, came out as transgender. Seven years later, Bello, 51, created her own fashion line of lingerie designed for transgender women and hopes to be an example for parents of transgender people. Her clothing line, named Zhe in reference to the gender-neutral pronoun, includes technology meant to fit transgender women’s bodies and help them feel comfortable in their own skin. “They’re meant to help trans women navigate through the world and through their clothes comfortably without having to worry,”

Step one to making a style statement that’s all yours: DIY the design from scratch, whether it’s something to wear (power pendant, anyone?) or serve (custom doughnuts, coming right up). Sources for do-it-yourself inspiration can be found across Long Island, so get busy. While creating something one-of-a-kind you also make memories, says Michelle Rodriguez, 37, a Westbury nurse who “loves the whole bohemian style.” She and her daughter, Adelina, 7, learned to make boho-happy floral crowns in September at a workshop presented by Hometown Flower Collective, where she and her wife got their wedding bouquets.
