They say history repeats itself and fashion history is no exception, so here’s the breaking news: UGGs are officially in again (Editor’s note: Were they ever really out, though?). We all woke up one morning and the shearling-lined boots that *defined* many of our middle school years had made a deal with [insert higher power here] and taken over every Instagram feed, TikTok scroll, morning commute, and grocery store people-watching (outfit-envying) perusal. The game-changer that brought them back? The Ultra Mini Boot. This micro-miniature version of the ever-loved 2000s classic has been seen on everyone from Kendall Jenner to Joan Smalls and every fashion blogger and trendy influencer under the sun. As a result, it has become nearly impossible to find a pair.

Luckily, you can snag your own from Amazon (at this time, it’s the only retailer that offers a wide variety of colors and sizes—although you technically can get a select few at stores like Neiman Marcus and UGG).

The “Honey, I shrunk the boot” version of the shoe is just as cozy, warm, and comfortable as its taller cousin styles, but is also easier to slip on while rushing out the door, and easier to pair with baggier pants now that the skinny jeans you used to tuck into your boots have been #cancelled (we’re kidding—you can wear whatever kind of jean you wanna!). Though the style was originally introduced last year, the launch of new colors like Sky Blue and Orange Soda have earned them a place on many a wish list and in every subsequent “What I got for Christmas” haul video.

While the unprecedented increase in search for more casual activewear and athleisure styles as a result of more time spent cooking, socializing, working, exercising, and hobby-ing from home over the past two years is an obvious contributing factor to the shoe’s success, their astronomical popularity (search volume for this style has shot up 403 percent since November) is also due to the fact that these tiny boots are more discreet than the brand’s former classic styles. They are easier to dress up and down and to wear inside or outside while still wrapping your feet in a plush hug. They’re light to wear, and comfortable—ticking both form and function boxes—and have taken off because of the growing popularity of “retro” Y2K fashion.

Unlike the classic Mini II’s 5-inch height, the Ultra Mini style is even shorter at 3.75 inches, making them the perfect go-between of a slipper and a full on shoe. Though lacking in the arch-support department, the boots are my forever go-to when it comes to running errands, walking the dog, doing laundry, limping home from the gym, and padding around the house. Admittedly, as a very trend-impressionable individual, I was duly influenced to buy the subtle, supremely cozy style for myself, but alas (and expectedly) they are sold out nearly everywhere. To help, we went on the hunt to find the rare and ever illusive boot. Scroll up, and you shall find some of the last remaining pairs of these sought-after winter booties!
